Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
I ain’t no dope smoker, but I loves me some Andy Bean and the Councilman.
This is The Two Man Gentlemen Band playing, “Me, I Get High On Reefer,” from their newest album, ¡Dos Amigos Una Fiesta!.
The Two Man Gentlemen Band is an accurately-named act that plays prohibition-era style cabaret music, but flavored with an extra dose of double-entendres. I think they might be best described as the Ambiguously Gay Duo of modern speakeasy bands. When you listen to songs like “When Your Lips are Playing My Kazoo,” and “There’s Something in My Trousers,” and “Put it in My Ear (When You Make That Music),” it is difficult to not have at least a chuckle at their silly innuendos. These musicians obviously have fun when they are playing, and that makes it easy for the listener to have fun.
This is music to have fun to. If you know the Charleston, grin and do the Charleston, if you don’t, at least drink some bathtub gin and play yourself some air-ukulele.
There aren’t many folks playing this kind of music these days (C.W. Stoneking, I guess?), so The Two Man Gentlemen Band something unique to put on. Break up a tedious folksy playlist with something different.
Sincerely,
Reverend Harris
