I'm preparing a little country western set (for Friday ahhh) and I'm looking for a few fun lady-driven tunes. Got any suggestions? I've already got The Davis Sisters & Loretta along with some George Jones & possible Lefty Frizzell. Help a sister out! :)

I assume you’re singing and not DJing based on your fine sounding band.

(The rest of these links all go to Spotify).

Based on what I heard, I’d try a countrified version of Runnin Out of Fools (covered by Neko Case, but originally done by Aretha).

Some Jean Shepard would be an unlikely choice, but songs like Act Like a Married Man and Jeopardy are solid numbers.

If you’re even thinking about Patsy, stay away from the overplayed schlock that’s sung at every karaoke joint and stick to rockin’ numbers like Blue Moon of Kentucky or Gotta Lot of Rhythm.

Dolly’s Dumb Blonde would be killer.

Linda Ronstadt gets short shrift, but I’ve just start listening to her early country stuff. She did a cover of Waylon’s Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line with some minor tweaks and still makes it her own.

If you’ve got a hot guitar player, then rip it up with Tammy’s Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad. Or punch up the audience with Apartment #9.

Wanda Jackson, if you’ve got the chops - Riot In Cell Block #9 or Hard Headed Woman.

Randoms just because I’m putting myself in the audience and would love it if these were dropped on me.

Ray Charles - Lucky Old Sun

Ray Price - Heartaches By The Numbers

Bonnie Raitt - Angel From Montgomery

John Hartford - Tear Down the Grand Old Opry

Faron Young - If You Ain’t Lovin, You Ain’t Livin

Porter Wagoner - Midnight

And now your set just got a lot longer. Good luck!
